A CAREGIVER'S DAYDREAM
To escape this moment, this here, this now
I launch dreams forward or exhausted, drift back,
So hard to dwell here, where we are.
Today presses like a sharp-edged cookie cutter,
Outlining two sets of limbs rolled flat and stuck
in temporal goo
Your life dissolves by dollops,
I mourn each plop, each loss.
This here and now, a time we did not request
I wait for it to pass, this moment I'll forget.
Like memories strained through cheesecloth
I'll remember pieces.
